Take Me Out To The PSA

Moroch just put the finishing touches on a PSA for the Make-A-Wish Foundation starring Ian Kinsler, second baseman for the Texas Rangers. When you work with Make-A-Wish, everything has to be larger than life. So, what better way to unveil our commercial than on the Jumbotron at the Ballpark?

Just before the Rangers took the field against Kansas City, the stadium was suddenly filled with the dramatic strains of our opening music. In the commercial, Kinsler appears to be at batting practice, casually throwing baseballs in the air and making contact. As we cut wider, we see that one ball clears the center field fence and turns into a shooting star. That star, in turn, passes by a child in the hospital who makes a wish. A voice-over reminds us that everyone can be a hero like Kinsler by helping to make a wish come true.

Sam, an actual Wish Kid who starred in the spot, was on hand to throw out the first pitch with Kinsler acting as catcher. The power of seeing this commercial in the context of the stadium where it was shot was unbelievable. Add to that the personal connection with the adorable Sam and a generous check presentation from Kinsler. It all combined to create a special commercial that will last so much longer than the few seconds it was on the screen.

A beautiful and powerful spot – made all the more so by the context in which it was presented at the ballpark. The team should be proud, as well as our agency for supporting such a wonderful and important cause. I tip my hat to you all.

Wiping away the tears as i type.  Great job guys on capturing the spirit of the MAW foundation and the grand stories of Wishes coming true in how the commercial debuted.
