Ronald McDonald at The North American Sand Soccer Championships

The temperature was hot, the water was cool and sand was in the air. He was a main attraction for the 19th annual North American Sand Soccer Championships (NASSC) in Virginia Beach this past June.

Over 100,000 people kick it to Virginia Beach from the seven cities of HRVA, twenty other states and almost as many countries. The three-day championships end with Ronald McDonald distributing the medals and the trophy to the winning team.

This year marked the first year that McDonald’s Tidewater Co-Op sponsored the massive event on a 23-block stretch of the spectator-filled beach. The Moroch team in Richmond and local McDonald’s employees took to the beach to provide coupons, fans, Coke soccer balls, towels, Frisbees, coozies, pens, key chains and prizes for the McDonald’s-branded bag toss. The lesson learned from this activation is that the Richmond team desperately needs a golf cart. (Thanks in advance, Robert.)

Supporting events like this throughout the HRVA region allows our client to interact with customers outside of the restaurants. McDonald’s recognizes the importance of this event to their residents, businesses and economy. We look forward to many years of partnership with the Hampton Roads Soccer Council.

Forsa McDonald’s! Forsa Moroch!
